In 1976, about 3,000 acres in and around Brandon were listed as a historic district in the National Register of Historic Places. The Brandon Village Historic District includes nearly 250 buildings significant for their history and their architecture with splendid mid-19th century Revival, Federal, and Late Victorian buildings. Brandon , VT is the birthplace of Stephen A. Douglas, who represented Vermont in the United States Senate, and who championed the rights of states to adopt constitutions with slavery provisions, and who debated Abraham Lincoln in the famed Lincoln-Douglas debates. Douglas is credited for having said, “Vermont is a good state to be born in, provided you emigrate early.” |

Middlebury College is 20 minutes away by car. There is a charm about Brandon the recalls the America of Norman Rockwell. According to the town of Brandon web site, the Brandon Free Public Library sponsors a Pajamarama story time the third Tuesday of each month.
